4 Day - Captivating Northland

The Bay of Islands is a great add-on and should not be missed if time permits. This independent touring holiday will whisk you away to the Northland region, regarded as the birthplace of New Zealand as we know it today. Your base is Paihia, a seaside town nestled on the shores of a spectacular National Maritime Park. Learn more of the nation’s early history whilst enjoying & experiencing the many marine and land based activities & attractions available in this sub-tropical region.

Day 1 - Waitangi, Bay of Islands

Leaving your hotel this morning, cross the Harbour Bridge and travel through the northern suburbs of Auckland with the beach side homes of the Hibiscus Coast to the east and the bush-covered Waitakere Ranges out to the west. Marvel at the magnificence of the protected Kauri tree at Parry Kauri Park and enjoy spectacular scenery of native forests and sub-tropical bush as you make your way to Paihia in the Bay of Islands, a seaside town nestled on the foreshore of this National Maritime Museum Park. On arrival, visit the historic Waitangi Treaty house & the fascinating village of Russell, New Zealand's first capital.

Day 2 - Air Safari to Cape Reinga (B)

Today, board your light aircraft and fly to Cape Reinga, via spectacular harbours and beaches including the famous Ninety Mile Beach. Once on the ground, spend approximately 2 1/2 hours exploring New Zealand's northernmost point. The return flight back to the Bay of Islands includes some of the most awesome coastal scenery Northland has to offer. The remainder of the day is free for more sightseeing.

Day 3 - Overnight Bay of Islands cruise (B,D)

This morning, board Ipipiri, a brand new, state-of-the-art small ship for an overnight cruise of the sheltered waters of the Bay of Islands. You'll enjoy a full commentary on the history and environment of the area and when the ship anchors at sea, onboard tenders will ferry you to and from nearby islands to enjoy activities like snorkelling, swimming and kayaking. With only 30 identical state cabins with ensuite facilities spread over 2 decks, this small ship will provide a truly impressive cruise experience in one of the most spectacular regions of New Zealand.

Day 4 - Fly Bay of Islands to Auckland (B)

Disembark from your cruise late morning. At leisure until you are transferred to the airport later today for your 40 minute scenic flight back to Auckland. Tour operates daily. Different itinerary applies for travel commencing 15 May to 29 August inclusive.
